I created the fabric to make this pillow sham and throw on a 4 harness loom. The fabric consists of 100% bamboo fibers. This was a very time consuming and rewarding experience. Weaving has helped me to understand the use and application of the various weave structures.

I really enjoy the challenge of creating and using new materials. The past ten weeks have been devoted to exploring material possibilities and textures. I created an origami like fabric by fusing laser cut polyester plastic and polyester fabric. I fell in love with this material and I have been looking for ways to push it out of the 2D realm. I then fused the fabric into a 3D form and used that as a mold for casting cotton pulp. I enjoy creating these new and interesting forms with handmade paper. I feel that these studies will help inform some future surface design patterns. I look forward to translating these forms back into 2D.

I have been inspired for a long time by the work of Austrian architect Fredrick Hundertwasser. I wanted to translate his designs into fabric architecture. I hand dyed silk fabric to convey a sense of whimsy and then constructed this garment.

This is one of the prints that I developed from my geometric investigations. It was important for me to play with space and dimension and create an optical repeat. There is more to come in this series!

These are some material investigations for a collection of geometric patterns that I have been working on.

I built a light box to showcase one of my pattern repeats. The pattern was cut out of paper entirely by hand and then stacked to create reveal areas. I am really happy with how the light enhances the nuances of the design. The box hangs on the wall and is roughly 2’ square.

I felted a donkey jacket that I felt compelled to make over winter break for my sons nativity play. The wool is from a llama and came straight off a the farm in Oregon, some dirt, grass and all. I scoured and carded all of the wool used to make this piece. Then I felted the fibers together.

Purging some ideas on color and texture.

This is a water colored floral pattern that was inspired by break glazes on pottery.

This repeat was created out of the words “block print” and “bloom” which were selected for me at random in class. Although my inspirational words were pretty safe I drew inspiration from classic tattoo flowers. It was fun to explore the world of print making which was a completely new realm for me.

More paper architecture. I am anxious to see how this will develop. So many ideas!
